Joseph Anthony Anastasio - a.k.a. The Joe. Generally regarded
as one of the most dangerous and daring photographers in town, The Joe is an NYC Original.
Born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan back before that area became the yuppie shithole
it is today, Joe was raised in Astoria, Queens. Practically from day one he seemed to
have an odd ability to get where he wasn't suppose to be.
He first picked up a camera around the age of 14, and never did put it down for long, despite having little money for film and being blind for a year when he was 16. Time and good medicine brought back the vision, and a good education that was in part funded by illegal means have afforded him the skills to take his art to a bold new level. Today, The Joe is an internationally published photographer who's credits include magazines such as Marie Claire,Smithsonian Magazine, and Time Out New York.
Retired from his prior career as a "Street Pharmacist" and occasional Felon, The Joe can be found during the days programming computers. Though as soon as the sun dips below the horizon, the street savvy Joe can be found combing the streets and tunnels of the city in search of adventure, good photos, a good story, and at the end of the night, a good stiff drink.
